DWSL has decided for the first time this year to run an Under 13 league. This is an exciting development as players will now play in an age-specific environment, with an adapted 9-a-side format, which will ease the transition to 11-a-side football from age 14 up.

DWSL U13 Match Report Sunday 12/06/05

The U13's kicked of their league campaign with a well deserved 1-0 win over Boyne Rovers at Gannon Park. The Malahide girls dominated the game from start to finish with their crisp passing on a perfectly manicured pitch, and were unlucky not to have won by more than one goal. In the first half the girls kept the Rovers goalkeeper busy and were a little disappointed to go into half time scoreless.

Malahide came out in the second half more determined and peppered the Rovers goal with a series of pile drivers and near misses. The all important goal came midway through the second half following great work down the left wing, when a corner was whipped in, to be met by Lisa McShera who made no mistake from close range.

Malahide had a late scare when Rovers were awarded a penalty following a handball, but much to the relief of the home support, the Rovers forward blasted the ball over the bar.

Overall the coaches were delighted with the result and the style of football played. The girls have a busy week ahead with a midweek trip to Rush, followed by a home fixture against high flying Dunboyne next Sunday.
