Malahide United the Big Winners in Kennedy Cup

A great week in Limerick finished on Friday with a great Final between NDSL and DDSL. It appears for the first time in the History of the competition the same Club had representatives on each team in the Final.

The NDSL were represented by Kevin Molloy, Sam O'Connor, Sean Costello and Jamie Walsh

The DDSL were represented by Dylan Cashin (Important not to forget Brian Heffernan who withdrew a week before the tournament with an injury)

The Final was a great game with the NDSL taking a desrved lead in the First half from a corner kick. The second half was a ding dong affair with the DDSL scoring two goals to run out narrow winners. So Dylan Cashin takes home the Clubs first Kennedy Cup winners medal which is great for the Club, but more importantly the  Five lads were a credit to Malahide United FC and their proud parents.

The NDSL lads scored 9 goals throughout the week Jamie netted 5, Sam 3 and Kevin 1 and Dylan held his nerve to score the winning penalty for the DDSL in a 4-3  semi final penalty shoot out against Dundalk. Not sure but looks like Jamies tally was probably the highest  from any player in the tournament which is another great achievment.

I have no doubt the vultures will be in from other Clubs with false promises but the reality of it is Malahide United has something nobody else has and definetly worth being part of for many years to come. I, like a lot of people, have made mistakes over the years with this age group . The key is admitting to making them, learning from them and moving forward bigger and better. So it is next season we have to take one step back to take two steps forward.

This week is evidence for all to see that if we support Colm O'Connell , Ken Leahy and Liam Mcgroarty in building a team next season the future looks very bright indeed.

Well done again to all the LADS.
