Girls Soccer At Malahide United
Following the successful running of the FAI’s ‘Soccer Sisters’ Camp during Easter in 2012 at Malahide United’s facilities, the club decided to introduce its own Girls Soccer Academy aimed at providing soccer for girls of all ages in the community.
It was an instant hit with up to 50 girls, ranging in age from 7 to 12 taking part each Saturday in a Soccer Academy on the All-weather pitch in Gannon Park. At the end of the first season, and based on the tremendous interest to play soccer each weekend, three girls teams were formed from the Academy.
Girls under 10, 11 & 12
Under 10, 11 and 12 teams entered the Metropolitan Girls League (MGL) and what a fantastic first season!
The Under 10’s, under the coach Peter Hynes played in friendly ‘blitzes’ most weekends which involved one team hosting several other teams and a series of 5-a-side games.
The Under 11 girls, under coaches Louise Lynch and Moira Dunne, and the Under 12 girls coached by Darina Flynn, Sean McLoughney and Peter McElroy had a very successful introductory season their respective leagues with the U12’s narrowly losing out in a play-off final and the U13’s finishing a credible 3rd in their league.
This season, 2014-15, we will field the following girl’s teams:
- U11 (date of birth 2004)
- U12 (date of birth 2003)
- U13 (date of birth 2002)
- U14 (date of birth 2001)
The Soccer Academy for girls up to the age of 10 will also re-commence on September 20th at Gannon Park Malahide at 1pm. All new girls are very welcome to come down and join us.
Our aim is to run a girls Academy for this young age group to introduce them to the basics and how to have fun playing soccer and when they are ready, participate in games against other teams at U10 or U11 level.
Parents and new coaches who are interested in helping with the teams or the Saturday girl’s academy should contact the club at email@example.com or Eamon on 087-2351944.
Again, our Academy for girls under the age of 10 years re-commences on Saturday September 20th at 1pm in Gannon Park. All new girls welcome.
