It would
not be appropriate to start reporting on our Venture in to 11
a side without first acknowledging the players who have moved
on during the summer .All of these lads contributed hugely to
the development and success of this Panel over the last 4 yrs
. Alas, Dylan McNulty and Jack Nolan have moved to pastures new
this season and I know they have the best wishes of all the squad
for the season ahead.
We look forward to seeing everybody return to Gannon Park when
they are ready where a huge welcome awaits from all the friends
built up over the last few years.
10/6 - Malahide share
spoils with DDSL representative side
MALAHIDE UNITED SELECT.......3 DDSL U11 SQUAD.......................3
MALAHIDE United were honoured to be asked provide the opposition
for the DDSL Under 11 Development Squad in a friendly fixture
at Gannon Park on Sunday.
The match was played over three periods and Malahide raced into
a 3-0 lead with a brace of goals from Lee Desmond and a third
from Robbie Doyle.
The second period saw several changes to both sides and the DDSL
reduced the arrears with two goals. A third just a minute into
the third period levelled the match at 3-3.
Malahide has a some glorious chances to get their noses in front
in the final period but Ciaran McGahan saw two shots just miss
the target while in the last minute Robbie Doyle shot wide with
only the keeper to beat.

10/2 - Impressive Malahide hit seven
on the road as Ferrybank bow out of All-Ireland
FERRYBANK FC.……….0 : MALAHIDE UNITED….…7
MALAHIDE UNITED Under 11 Premier’s booked a return trip
to Waterford in the SFAI All-Ireland Menton -Seery Cup when they
overcame Ferrybank in this impressive showing in the south east
on Saturday last.
Goalkeeper Mark Collier had little to do in over the course of
the game and the nearest the opposition came to threatening the
home goal was from their tip-off and it took some smart covering
by skipper Conor Synnott to avert the danger.
After that it was one was traffic and Darren Doyle was to mine
a highly productive return down the left flank and finished the
game with a superb hat-trick to his name.
But, it was fullback Lee Desmond who got the goals flowing with
a free kick around the Ferrybank wall and although Kevin Croke
in the home goal got his hands to the ball, he couldn’t
prevent it dropping into the net.
That opener after 11 minutes helped settle Malahide and their
patient build-up, and switch play orchestrated by Brian Heffernan
and Cian Norris in the middle of the park, ensured the Dubs were
very much in control.
Doyle got the first of his three with a superb run down the left
flank where his pace simply left Ferrybank trailing in his wake
and his finish was first class from an acute angle.
Jamie Walshe then got in on the scoring after having spurned
a great chance from close in minutes earlier. Heffernan, Graham
Leahy and Dylan Cashin were involved in the build-up which set
Dylan McGlade free down the right flank and his cross was met
perfectly by Walshe who got in front of his man to arrow a great
header into the left hand corner of Croke’s net. A fourth
just before the interval from Darren Doyle gave Malahide complete
domination and the visitors introduced Adam Connolly and Sean
Costello to lead the line from the start of the second period.
The second half was just four minutes old when Doyle completed
his hat-trick where again his pace simply was too much for Ferrybank
and his finish was both calm and assured. The left side was again
to provide the route to goal on 41 minutes when some superb passing
from Scott Porter, Cian Norris, Matthew Taylor and Darren Doyle
put Desmond in on goal and he finished from close in at the second
time of asking.
The super seventh came from Sean Costello who reacted quickest
to a ball over the top and although Ferrybank had opportunity
to clear , the ball fell for Costello and he poked home just ahead
of Doyle to get his name on the score sheet.
Ferrybank were fulsome in their praise as was the match referee
of the quality of Malahide’s play as they made decent progress
in the All-Ireland where, in the next round, they will face Villa
FC, another Waterford team.

MALAHIDE UNITED
would like to place on record their deep appreciation for the
hospitality and friendship which they extended as a result of
their visit to Ferrybank FC and wish the club every success over
the remainder of the season.
MALAHIDE UNITED: Collier; Desmond, Leahy (Porter 33) , McGee,
Synnott, Norris, Heffernan (Taylor 33), McGlade, Doyle, Cashin
(Costello 30) , Walshe (Connolly (30).
3/2 - Malahide cruise past
Swords in Seery Menton Cup
MALAHIDE UNITED…………3 : SWORDS CELTIC………0
THREE first half strikes booked Malahide United's 11 Premier's
an away date with Ferrybank of Waterford in the SFAI Seery Menton
Cup as Swords Celtic were eclipsed at balmy Gannon Park on Saturday.
The match saw a welcome return to the Coast Road for one of the
team's former aces, Dylan McNulty, and he showed he is still a
class act with an excellent performance for Celtic between the
sticks.
Despite the heroics of McNulty, there was little he could do
to derail an immensely impressive display from Malahide who produced
a cultured performance, zipping the ball around on the super `Top
Pitch' with an assurance that belied their age.
Their patient build-up and accurate passing saw them grab the
initiative from the off and they simply had too much skill and
craft for their opponents on the day.
United also had to overcome the initial loss of Adam Connolly,
Darren Doyle and Dylan McGlade who were sitting entrance exams,
but the depth of the squad shone through and the goals were quick
to flow as United got to grips with the task at hand.
Matthew Taylor got the ball rolling with the opener on 14 minutes
after he availed of some slack marking in the the Swords rearguard
and within three minutes Graham Leahy, playing on the rightside
of midfield drilled the ball home from 20 yards to double the
lead in impressive style.
The game was put beyond reach with Dylan Cashin netting after
Cian Norris' corner kick wasn't properly dealt with by Swords
and Cashin extracted maximum reward by fizzing the ball past McNulty.
Jamie Walshe came in for Taylor at the interval and he showed
some nice touches while Darren Doyle was excellent down the left
hand side and should have capped a fine cameo with a couple of
goals but was unlucky to see shots go just the wrong side of the
target.
That was the same result that midfielder Brian Heffernan had
with a rising shot while Walshe also showed some close control
at the edge of the box to get a shot in, but again it sailed over
the bar.
Ronan McGee put in an impressive display in the heart of the
defence along side skipper Conor Synnott while Cian Norris and
Brian Heffernan complimented each other's play with an eye-catching
midfield power play.
Elsewhere, Lee Desmond and Scott Porter in the fullbacks berths
got forward time after time to add to United's creative approach.
27/1 MALAHIDE UNITED.....4 ESKER CELTIC............0
MALAHIDE UNITED's 11 Premier's had too much class as they made
comfortable progress past Esker Celtic in the SFAI Seery Menton
Cup at Gannon Park on Saturday.
First half goals from Matthew Taylor, Dylan Cashin and Darren
Doyle gave the black and reds a stranglehold on the game which
they never released and Esker didn't manage one shot in anger
on the Malahide goal over the course of the game.
Playing into the pavilion end goal, United took the game to the
Major division west Dubliners from the off and virtually camped
in the opposition half with goalkeeper Mark Collier a virtual
spectator for large passages of the game.
United had several early opportunities before Taylor pivotted
inside the penalty area in the 12th minutes to fire high into
the net.
Dylan Cashin got in on the scoring with a crisp finish to double
the lead on 18 minutes and Darren Doyle who was impressive down
the left flank bagged number three on 22 minutes as Malahide pushed
the game beyond Esker's reach.Esker struggled manfully to stem
the Malahide tide and despite having plenty of possession, the
home side only managed to add one second half goal.
That came from the impressive Lee Desmond who was a constant thorn
down the left flank and his pace was simply too much as he outflanked
the Esker cover in the 39th minute and after being denied with
a first effort, he followed up to angle a ball low to the back
of the net to wrap up the goalscoring.
Dylan Cashin shot over when well placed and substitute Jamie
Walshe also had a chance late on but saw his effort blocked away.
Scott Porter caught the eye when he came into the action with
some measured play at the back while Cian Norris, skipper Conor
Synnott and Ronan McGee all shone well in this comprehensive success.
Malahide United's 11 Premier take the Rocky Road for
deserved Garden County success!
WICKLOW ROVERS.........0 MALAHIDE UNITED...........2
MALAHIDE UNITED 11 Premier's availed of the Christmas break to
journey to the Garden County and were rewarded with a deserving
two-nil success over WDSL 11 Premier's, Wicklow Rovers in a friendly
encounter on Wednesday, January 3.
The match was switched from Whitegates to the nearby Rocky Road
pitch and despite heavy underfoot conditions aswell as driving
wind and rain, it was the Dubliners who settled quickest against
one of Wicklow's top performers in this age group with Cian Norris
pulling the strings in midfield while Graham Leahy and Dylan Cashin
down the left flank looked more than impressive.
On the opposite flank Lee Desmond and Darren Doyle combined very
well and created some good openings.
Sean Costello was denied an opening goal for the DDSL boys after
11 minutes when he saw his crisp rising shot come off the underside
of the Wicklow Rovers crossbar with the 'keeper beaten out of
sight.
With the match played in three twenty minute 'thirds' it was
Malahide United who forged ahead early in the 'second third' when
Sean Costello set Dylan McGlade free down the left flank and his
low drilled cross was met first time at the back post by Dylan
Cashin to ripple the home side's net from close in.
McGlade could have added a second but saw his shot go the wrong
side of the home side's goal. The green shirted hosts began to
make some inroads on Malahide's grip on the game but the second
'third' finished with the viistors still enjoying the narrowest
of advantages.
Despite facing into the breeze for a second time, it was Malahide
who produced some of the best football of the game in the final
'third' of the game and again it was McGlade who played a part
in the set up for the second goal after some good approach work
down the right flank. He picked out Adam Connolly and the striker
showed good composure to lift the ball to the back of the net
despite the best efforts of Rovers' netminder.
Sean Costello came close to adding a third but saw his goalbound
shot held by the Wicklow netminder and McGlade might have go his
name on the scoresheet but finished weakly with the goal at his
mercy.
Overall, it was an accomplished display with Norris in the middle
of the park arguably Malahide's top performer but Mark Collier
in goal, Brian Heffernan, Scott Porter, Dylan Cashin and Graham
Leahy also caught the eye with polished performances.
Matthew Taylor, on holidays, was the only absentee from the travelling
squad.
Malahide United would like
to place on record the club's appreciation of Keith Earls of Wicklow
Rovers for facilitating and making all neccessary arrangements
for this friendly fixture at the Rocky Road.

O’Reilly session a superb
bonus for Malahide Under 11 DDSL Premier’s
MALAHIDE United’s Under 11 Premier DDSL had a great end
to the first half of the season with a highly entertaining coaching
session under the expert guidance of FAI Senior coach Noel O’Reilly.
Despite the inclement conditions at Gannon Park the squad enjoyed
a thoroughly varied and enjoyable two hour session with a range
of drills and practice keeping the squad on their toes throughout.
Through the good offices of team coach and FAI employee, Liam
McGroarty, O’Reilly accepted the invitation to oversee the
session and the boys were not to be disappointed in the slightest.

Noel O'Reilly makes a point to the Under 11
Premier's during ther coaching session he took at Gannon Park.

Noel O'Reilly, team coach Liam McGroarty and
Eamon Scott
O’Reilly’s renowned skills as a communicator shone
through from the moment he arrived and he had the boys in action
without delay with plenty of passing and movement drills and he
was quick to praise the good work being undertaken by the eager
Malahide side.
Several managers took the opportunity to observe the session
and no doubt several mental notes were taken throughout the session
which had a nice progressive pace and pitch.
Rain drenched by the fine drizzle which fell incessantly, the
boys cared not one iota and the squad were quick to show their
appreciation and joined in with management to sign off the evening’s
workout at the Coast Road all-weather facility with a deserved
round of applause for Noel’s well structured session
25/11 - Three for Cashin as United go seven-up!
MALAHIDE UNITED....7 SWORDS CELTIC......0
A DYLAN Cashin hat-trick helped warm the fans and ensure a decent
entertainment level at Gannon Park on Saturday as Malahide went
seven-up against Swords Celtic in this 11 Premier DDSL derby tie.
There were also strikes from Matthew Taylor, Dylan McGlade (2)
and Sean Costello as United maintained their quest for league
honours by seeing off the bottom of the table visitors in emphatic
style.
Cashin was off the mark as early as the fourth minute when Dylan
McGlade carved out the opening with an incisive run and cutback
from the endline and the predatory Cashin timed his run to the
near post to perfection to slot past Dylan McNulty.
Matthew Taylor doubled the lead 9 minutes later with a finish
from close in after good approach work by Lee Desmond and Darren
Doyle.
The red and black stripes enjoyed the bulk of possession but
struggled at times to break down an overworked Swords rearguard
and McNulty also made some decent saves to keep the score down
to two as the interval whistle sounded.
With words of encouragement ringing in their ears, Malahide
upped the pace on the restart and Cashin soon found his way onto
the scoresheet again with a nice move down the left flank.
Dylan McGlade then got in on the scoring act with a quick brace
of goals - both finished off superbly as his confidence in front
of goal improves by the game.
Jamie Walsh made a big contribution with his forceful running
following his half-time introduction and in the 49th minute found
his run on goal illegally ended in the penalty area. Dylan Cashin
took responsibility to complete his hat-trick with a sweetly drilled
shot low to Dylan McNulty's right.
There was still time for Cashin to involve himself in arguably
the goal of the game as he showed excellent vision on the right-side
of the penalty area to pick out Sean Costello with a delightfully
flighted cross and the versatile Costello finished to the net
- a la Thierry Henry - with a brilliant low struck execution.
Game, set and match and three deserving points on a cold and
blustery day down Gannon Park way.
Walsh goal is decisive as Crumlin leave empty-handed
MALAHIDE UNITED.......1 CRUMLIN UNITED.........0
MALAHIDE UNITED 11 Premier’s produced their second back-to-back
one-nil win in as many weeks as a gritty Crumlin United left empty
handed from Gannon Park.
On a biting cold winter morning, Malahide mixed the sublime with
the mediocre as they proved a superior force to their opponents,
but lacked a cutting edge to finish the game off as they should
have done given the amount of possession they enjoyed.
Malahide had won one-nil away from home against Lourdes Celtic
thanks to a Lee Desmond goal a week previous, and on their return
to home base, it was the turn of Jamie Walsh to produce the goods
with a tap in from close in after a great run down the right flank
by Graham Leahy before cutting the ball back from the endline.
In truth, Malahide should have won by a more comfortable margin
with Dylan McGlade guilty of spurning three chances which fell
his way while a second half goal line scramble saw the ball taken
off the Crumlin line of two occasions in a matter of seconds.
Ronan McGee came into the middle of defence and played with
a great deal of authority while Scott Porter continued his run
of good form with another assured performance from the left-full
position.
Malahide faced into a stiff breeze in the first half and enjoyed
decent swathes of possession but with little to show for their
measured approach.
What proved the only goal of the game came on 21 minutes when
Leahy outflanked the Crumlin defence with a powerful run down
the flank. The former Swords Celtic man showed great composure
to look up and find Dylan Cashin with a measured cross. Cashin
connected only to see his shot tipped onto the crossbar but Walsh
reacted sharply to finish the ball to the net.
It looked as if that would provide the platform for the Cian
Norris skippered side to push on to a more emphatic result, but
Crumlin dug deep and defended well while poor finishing on Malahide's
part saw no further addition to the scoreline.
One glorious sweeping move the length of the pitch saw Malahide
cut Crumlin wide open with a four man move but McGlade’s
final shot lacked conviction and the visiting keeper safely gathered.
Lee Desmond, Conor Synnott, Adam Connolly and Darren Doyle all
made their way into the game with Desmond mining a rich furrow
down the left flank but despite superb displays from Norris, Brian
Heffernan and Leahy, Walsh's first half strike was to prove a
match winner.
Few would argue that Malahide fully deserved the points on offer
although the margin of victory ensured that the game remained
competitive to the final whistle.
Ouch, but the show goes on!!!!
ST KEVIN'S BOYS........2 MALAHIDE UNITED......1
MALAHIDE UNITED'S 11 Premier's suffered a rare defeat when going
down 2-1 to St Kevin's Boys at Shanowen Road in a rip-roaring
contest on Saturday morning
Prior to kick-off, a minute silence was observed as a mark of
respect to Grace Carr, grandmother of Dylan Cashin and mother-in-law
of Joe Cashin who passed away in Donegal after a short illness.
A great exhibition of open attacking football saw some great
approach work, some scintillating individual performances, but
from a United point of view, it was a match that in many ways
was gifted to the SKB's after losing a hard earned advantage after
Adam Connolly's first half effort.
It was the home side who started the brighter and Mark Collier
in the Malahide goal had to be alert as he handled well as the
tangerine's pushed for an opener.[PARA]
But Malahide steadied the ship and played their way into the
game with Cian Norris and Matthew Taylor seeing plenty of the
ball in the middle of the park and it took some last minute interventions
from St Kevin's to keep the front pairing of Cashin and Connolly
at bay.
The opener came in somewhat bizarre circumstances with a St Kevin's
kick-out getting a wicked connection at the edge of the area and
as the ball skied into the air, Connolly reacted quickest and
although the home 'keeper Kirwan got a touch to the ball, he couldn't
prevent it crossing the line.
On the balance of play, Malahide were deserving of their lead
but St Kevin's always posed a threat and their second half turn
around was as much down to Malahide United mistakes as it was
to the creativity of their opponents.
That said, the Saints equaliser was a stunning strike from wide
on the left with the ball sailing over the arms of an out-stretched
Mark Collier.
Defensively, it was a poor goal to give up. The ball was lost
off our own throw but in fairness, the finish was top drawer.
That was with 15 minutes to go and still United looked as if they
could nick a second goal. The introduction of Jamie Walshe added
a cutting edge to the frontline and his powerful runs down the
right flank threatened to open up a sight of goal but on two occasions
he ran the ball out of play when well positioned.
Then Matthew Taylor combined with Cian Norris at the edge of
the St Kevin's box but a second of hesitancy and the shooting
opportunity was lost for Norris.
The winner for St Kevin's was a cruel blow with a draw arguably
being a fair result after an even contest. And, the goal had a
touch of controversy about it. Malahide won a thrown in deep in
St Kevin's territory but an injured SKB player needed attention.
Remarkably, the referee awarded the throw-in to St Kevin's after
the player had received attention.
It was from this throw that St Kevin's then won a free in the
centre circle. St Kevin's pushed me forward and in a crowded box
the ball was critically allowed to bounce and St Kevin's reacted
to it quicker to nod the ball past a stranded Mark Collier.
There was still a chance at the opposite end to pull a point
out of the fire. Jamie Walshe was fouled wide on the right but
Dylan Cashin's free was beaten away by a grateful St Kevin's and
referee Charlie Brennan immediately sounded the fulltime whistle.
It was a hugely disappointing result for Malahide having made
such a handsome contribution to the game, but it still didn't
stop St Kevin's celebrating as if it was a title decider. But,
if people need reminding, there are no titles handed out as this
stage of the season and there is a lot of football still to be
played. We look forward to seeing St Kevin's out in Gannon Park
later in the season where no psyching up will be needed from a
home team point of view.

7/10 MALAHIDE UNITED....2 ST JOSEPH'S BOYS...0
THE North Coast 11 Premier's continued their recent good form
with a deserved win over St Joseph's Boys at Gannon Park on Saturday
with goals from Adam Connolly and Dylan McGlade. Scott Porter
came in to captain the side in the absence of the injured Conor
Synnott and the dimunitive defender showed no recent 'sideline
rustiness' and contributed handsomely as another three points
were garnered in the team's quest of a five-in-a-row.
There's a lot of football to be played before such an eventuality
might become a reality, but, despite playing short of their full
ability, Malahide still had too much armory for the boys from
Sallynoggin on this particular occasion.
The Joes have proved a bit of a nemesis for Malahide in recent
times but few neutrals would argue, Malahide simply had too much
class and organisation about them and despite a brave performance
from the black and white's, it could have been more than just
two which rippled the opposition net as their goal lived a charmed
life, particularly in the opening period.
With the wind at their backs, Malahide commenced with purpose
and while they put together some useful passing movements, they
found St Joseph's in a dogged mood and chances were at a premium
in that opening half hour.
That was until the 18th minute when Graham Leahy broke up a
rare opposition attack and released a measured pass up the middle.
The ball always favoured the last man of St Joseph's, but, the
combined presence of Dylan Cashin and Adam Connolly succeeded
in putting sufficient pressure for the ball to pop up freely and
it fell invitingly for Connolly and he made no mistake as he drilled
the ball to the middle of the net with an assured finish. One-up
and a fair reflection on the balance of play. Malahide set about
adding to their tally with Cian Norris and Lee Desmond imposing
themselves in midfield where 'Harry' was to have a somewhat frustrating
day. Dylan Cashin had a ball cleared off the line and Adam Connolly
came close to netting a second when he beat the goalkeeper only
for the right-full to fly-kick off the line.
On the turn around, it was Joey's who had the wind at their
backs but it was Malahide who were to add to their tally with
a lovely piece of skill from Dylan McGlade. Fed the ball down
the right hand channel McGlade had options inside but he steadied
himeself and planted a crisp finish beating the 'keeper at his
near post. Sean Costello, Conor Synnott, Matthew Taylor and Jamie
Walsh all made introductions in the second period and all made
a valuable contribution to what was a high tempo game throughout.
Ronan McGee had a super game alongside the imperious Brian Heffernan
in the middle of the back four while Darren Doyle and Graham Leahy
was excellent over the course of the hour. Malahide got a little
ragged in the closing ten minutes as tired legs and an added urgency
from Joey's saw the home side pinned back.
Mark Collier, in the home goal, was always assured and his safe
handling made life a tad easier as Joe's pressed hard as they
looked to get a foothold in the game. But ,Malahide were not for
buckling and while not the prettiest game the team has ever produced,
there can be no complaints that Malahide were well worthy of the
three points on offer.
The contest was excellently handled by the match official and
Scott Porter can feel proud of his team's efforts as a bogey team
were finally dispatched.
MALAHIDE UNITED: Mark Collier; Scott Porter (capt), Graham Leahy,
Ronan McGee, Brian Heffernan, Darren Doyle, Lee Desmond, Cian
Norris, Dylan McGlade, Dylan Cashin, Adam Connolly. Subs: Sean
Costello, Matthew Taylor, Conor Synnott, Jamie Walshe.
Malahide singing in the rain after four goal Pearse Park
goal salvo
CRUMLIN UNITED.....0 MALAHIDE UNITED...4
DYLAN CASHIN kept up his remarkable feat of scoring in every
game this season when he netted a picture goal as Malahide United
11 Premier's dismissed the challenge of Crumlin United on a four-nil
scoreline at Pearse Park on Saturday.
While the result may look somewhat convincing, the truth behind
the fourth win in five outings gis one of steely resolve in the
face of a competitive opposition who actually had the better start
and pinned Malahide back from the opening whistle.
Skipper Conor Synnott and central defensive partner Brian Heffernan
were to go on and have imperious games and they needed to be at
their absolute best to repulse the blue shirts of Crumlin. Heffernan
was coolness personified while skipper Synnott made several telling
interceptions.
But, in virtually the first attack into opposition territory
Malahide opened their goalscoring account on 11 minutes. Jamie
Walshe and Adam Connolly showed good strength as they combined
down the right flank to win a corner. From the resulting kick
the ball was only half cleared and the lurking Darren Doyle was
well positioned to drill the ball to the net from just outside
the box with interest and no little aplomb. The referee will have
better days in terms of correct decision making and on several
occasions stopped the flow of the game as Malahide developed some
promising attacks, and, outrageously, got his body in the way
of a `drop ball' in the second period which blocked Dylan Cashin
contesting possession despite the howls of complaint from the
Malahide line.
Crumlin had threatened on occasion - particularly from set pieces
but they found Mark Collier as safe as houses as he held everything
that came his way.
Lee Desmond and Doyle combined well down the left flank while
Matthew Taylor started well by picked up a rib injury after a
promising start and had to be substituted at the interval.
On a day of gusting wind and driving rain, Malahide introduced
Ronan McGee and Dylan Cashin for Taylor and Sean Costello at the
interval as Malahide took a one goal advantage into the turn around. The
change was to have a positive effect with Cashin mining a rich
furrow down the right side of the park and McGee adding a bit
of bite into the midfield engine room alongside Cian Norris.
With Crumlin snapping hard and some dubious refereeing decisions
pinning Malahide deep into their own half, the introduction of
Dylan McGlade was to have a telling impact as Dylan Cashin moved
up to join Adam Carroll in the attack line.
McGlade, returning from injury, was a breath of fresh air and
his mazy dribbling gave Malahide a constant `out' and he helped
lift the siege on more than one occasion as they defended their
solitary goal lead.
One particular run down the right flank saw him carve open Crumlin
but his inviting cross got caught under the feet of Adam Connolly
and the opportunity was lost for what would have been a picture
goal.
But Malahide were not to be denied and they added to the scoreline
on 47 minutes. Crumlin were penalised just outside the area after
a hand got in the way of Cian Norris' attempted volley. Ronan
McGee rolled the ball square to Lee Desmond and the normally left
footed ace swung with his right foot to thread the ball through
the eye of the needle as he found a chink of daylight in the Crumlin
wall and the ball fizzed to the back of the net.
That goal seemed to have an uplifting effect as far as Malahide
were concerned and they added number three on 52 minutes. Adam
Connolly showed great composure as he got in on goal in a one
on one situation and as the Crumlin netminder came out to narrow
the angle, the elegant Carroll dinked the ball to the right of
the keeper and he had already peeled away in celebration before
the ball had nestled in the back of the net.
There was still time for some icing on the cake with what undoubtedly
was the pick of the bunch. Scott Porter began the move from the
right-full back position as he found Dylan McGlade just inside
his own half. With a touch and a turn McGlade skipped past three
challenges and went wide down the flank. His cross was inch perfect
and Dylan Cashin, timing his run to perfection, rose like a salmon,
appeared to hang in suspension as he made a glorious contact to
send the ball back across the goal as the Crumlin netminder dived
the wrong way.
It was a classic finish, a great goal to cap a fine display,
it kept up his goal a game record going and it capped a wonderful
performance from the entire squad.
High fives all round and a jig of delight in the Pearse Park
rain!
MALAHIDE UNITED: Mark Collier; Sean Costello, Conor Synnott (capt),
Brian Heffernan, Lee Desmond, Matthew Taylor, Cian Norris, Darren
Doyle, Graham Leahy, Jamie Walshe, Adam Connolly. Subs: McGee

(47mins), Scott Porter for Doyle (54mins).
23/9 Malahide coast past Knocklyon at sun splashed Gannon Park
MALAHIDE UNITED..........3 KNOCKLYON UNITED.......0
MALAHIDE UNITED 11 Premier continued their recent good form with
a comfortable three-nil win over Knocklyon United as sun splashed
Gannon Park on Saturday.
Goals from Sean Costello and Dylan Cashin (2) confirmed the home
side's superiority and it was no more than the Conor Synnott skippered
side deserved on the evidence of a pulsating show of power play
from the four-in-a-row champions.
Graham Leahy on the rightside of midfield and Lee Desmond at
left full turned in majestic performances with a great hunger
for work and their willingness to attack at every opportunity.
Their incessant raiding down the flanks pinned the south Dubliners
back in their own half for long periods with only rare forays
forward helping to lift the siege.
There was few who would argue that Malahide were more than convincing
winners and while there were a couple of stand-out individual
displays, in fairness, this was very much a squad effort and even
without the trickery of the
injured Dylan McGlade to call upon, the work on the training
ground is reaping a rich reward for the Gannon Park cubs. Matthew
Taylor, Adam Connolly and Brian Heffernan led by example and hardly
put a foot wrong and the crisp passing and movement caused continuous
problems for the green and white shirted opposition. Malahide
were on top of their game and the cultured play of the side was
in evidence from the off.
Knocklyon battled gamely but found themselves up against a unit
firing on all cylinders and the visitors' goalkeeper took off
a couple of first class saves to keep the scoreline at a respectable
level.
But in terms of play and possession, it was Malahide who were
unstoppable with the opening goal coming on 12 minutes with a
solid finish from full-back Sean Costello from the edge of the
area while Dylan Cashin with a goal either side of the interval
gave Malahide a solid cushion.
Cashin has found the net in every game this season and is fast
gaining a reputation of a ruthless predator in front of goal.
His second on Saturday was a peach of a finish into the bottom
corner with a lot of the credit due to Matthew Taylor who showed
superb control to gather in a wayward goal-kick. His slide-rule
pass found Cashin lurking at the edge of the Knocklyon penalty
area and he kept his cool to rifle the ball crisply to the net
with an
assured finish.
It drew warm applause as it finally killed off any chance of
Knocklyon getting back into the game, but there was still time
for Matthew Taylor to bring the best out of the visiting netminder
who produced a top drawer save to stop Malahide grabbing a fourth
goal of this well contested DDSL top flight battle.
11 Premier's bounce back after opening day setback - Round Up
So Far
AFTER losing on the opening day for the first time ever, Malahide
United's 11 Premier's bounced back in emphatic style with back-to-back
victories over Home Farm and Lourdes Celtic and get their five-in-a-row
title chase back on track.
On Monday, it was time to host Home Farm at Gannon Park and
despite driving rain and high winds, both sides produced an hour
of super football laced with individual cameos and gutsy performances
with new signings Mark Collier showing a good pair of hands throughout
and Adam Connolly and Darren Doyle also showing up well.
Adam Connolly, Darren Doyle and Dylan Cashin were all on the
mark for Malahide as the side put down a serious marker of intent
for the season.
And, by full-time, it was the home side who were smiling as
they deservedly took the points to finally got some reward for
a wholehearted preseason campaign. Farm were talented but Malahide
were simply the better team and bossed most areas of the pitch
comfortably.
On Saturday last it was Lourdes Celtic who were visitors to
Gannon Park and while the southsiders have always provided formidable
opposition in the past, they came up against a Malahide side buzzing
on all fronts and were eventually hit for six.
A great opening goal from Jamie Walshe, who finished off Adam
Connolly's superb through ball with a clinical strike and a second
just before the interval when Graham Leahy let fly from 25 yards
out put the home side firmly in control. Cian Norris and Ronan
McGee have formed an impressive midfield paring and compliment
each
others style very well. McGee has broken up many opposition attacks
with his no nonsense approach while the cultured football brain
of Norris has the ability to unlock the meanest of defences with
his perceptive passing. This was a crucial platform which helped
give Malahide a firm grip on proceedings.
Behind them Brian Heffernan and skipper Conor Synnott have come
together as an impressivecentral pairing while fullbacks Sean
Costello and Lee Desmond give the side tremendous attacking options
down the flanks.
The introduction of Dylan Cashin at the interval was to have
a telling impact as the impish young striker showed clever awareness
to net a quick brace and also kept his cool to finish from the
penalty spot as he notched a smartly taken hat-trick and keep
his record of scoring in every game alive.
Lee Desmond, who has been highly impressive since his arrival
from St Malachy's, had provided the ammunition for his opening
strike from his left berth with a brilliant run the length of
the pitch, while Cashin also showed his predatory instincts to
finish off close in after the Lourdes keeper had dropped the ball
at this feet.
There was still time for Malahide to add a sixth goal with the
talented Dylan McGlade showing quick feet and mesmerising dribbling
skills down the left flank to carve open Lourdes and plant the
ball to the net with a great finish.
It gave telling testimony to the strength of the Malahide line
that two subs could come in an deliver four second half goals
between them. McGlade's champagne finish was the icing on the
cake of a tremendous performance and it left Lourdes somewhat
shell-shocked after they had lost earlier in the week to Cherry
Orchard. For Malahide, it was a commanding display of power, pace
and promise of better things to come and the side can look forward
with a lot of confidence to the season ahead.
With the new look squad bedding in after the departures of excellent
servants Dylan McNulty (Swords Celtic 11 Prem) and Jack Nolan
(Home Farm 11 Prem), Malahide look to have made the transition
to the 11-a-side with a seamless ease and the new additions have
all bedded in very well.
The months ahead promise to be more than interesting and with
an upcoming trip to St Mary's in Southampton to look forward to,
the 11 Premier's have an ideal opportunity to bond together into
an even more effective squad
Malahide United 6:0 Lourdes Celtic
At last the weather was kind for our second home game of the
season against Lourdes Celtic.Malahide started to attackfrom the
off and it was no surprise when Jamie Walsh starting his first
game of the season put Malahide ahead with a well worked goal.
Continued pressure from the home team resulted in a break down
the left by Lee Desmond who pulled the ball back into the path
of Graeme Leahy to fire an unstoppable shot high to the keepers
left to leave Malahide 2-0 at half time.
A triple substitution at half time with the introduction of the
Dylan Cashin , Darren Doyle and Scotty Porter increased the pressure
on Lourdes and it wasnt long before Cashin found the Net with
a typical poachers goal , next up Dylan McGlade replaced Matthew
Taylor and almost immediately made a great solo run and finished
sweetly to put the game beyond doubt. A penalty and another well
worked goal for Malahide's sixth gave Dylan Cashin a second half
hat trick and a deserved victory. Results from other fixtures filtered
through and Malahide Utd are joint top with Cherry Orchard after
3 games played.
Malahide United 3 Home Farm 1
Not long to reflect on Saturdays defeat as we were back in action
on Monday night against the Farm. A good crowd gathered for our
first competitive match in Gannon Park despite the rain which
came in bucket fulls. Malahide opened the scoring with a good
run down the left and powerful finish from Darren Doyle.Home Farm
equalised deservedly shortly after only for Dylan Cashin to put
the home team 2 -1 up before the Break.
A few changes at half time and shortly into the second half by
Liam saw the home team take total control of the match and it
was no surprise when Adam Connolly made it 3 -1 to Malahide and
secure the first three points of the season. Eamon arrived late
into the second half after a delayed flight back from the Danone
Cup in Lyon to savour a sweet victory against his old schoolboy
Club.Next up is a tough match at home to Lourdes.
