Rangers 1 : Malahide United 5 MALAHIDE
United proved too strong for Rivervalley Rangers in this U9 NDSLcup
tie in Swords at the weekend, putting five goals past the home
team.
Best for the away side was Lee Duffy who was
a constant threat throughout the game. From as early as the first
minute, Duffy brought a great save out of the River Valley Rangers
keeper Aaron Snow after a great run. However, it wasn't all one
way traffic and Rangers had a chance with six minutes gone. But
Duffy opened his account soon after from a corner by Daniel Colclough.
Duffy got on the end of the corner and with his left foot fired
the ball into the net. He could have doubled his account at the
end of the first quarter but only a great save again by Snow kept
him at bay. Duffy grabbed his second after five minutes in the
second quarter. The home team failed to clear a shot from Malahide's
Stephen O'Connor and Duffy was quickest to react and knocked the
ball home.
Rivervalley had a chance to pull one back near
the end of the second quarter. Good inter-play between Kevin McGrath
and Sean Kershaw carved out a chance for McGrath but he put his
shot just wide of the post. Rivervalley kept Malahide at bay during
the third quarter, which saw some excellent play from the home
side's number nine, Adam Currie, who was good going forward and
strong in the tackle in defence. However, Malahide put the tie
beyond the reach of Rangers in the final quarter, scoring three
more goals.
Duffy again was in the thick of things, grabbing
his third. River Valley did pull one back after an outstanding
dribble from Kevin McBride. He broke from midfield, beat a couple
of players and then knocked the ball home. Malahide regained their
three goal advantage when Stephen O'Connor walloped the ball home
after River Valley failed to clear the danger. And the scoring
was completed soon when Daniel Colclough got on the score sheet.
