MATCH SQUAD

The teams final game of their league campaign
and the team knew that if they avoided defeat they would be champions!
The squad were determined to make their final league performance
count and were willing to work hard to achieve the necessary result.
An overcast morning with no wind – ideal football conditions.
As has been usual for the last number of games the squad knew
that all positions were going to be rotated for each quarter –
all players would get a turn playing forward or midfield.

The forwards and mid fielders knew they would
have to work hard. From the first whistle, the team settled into
their rhythm, pressured the ball and passed it well when in possession.
The team persistently attacked the Clontarf goal during the first
quarter and were unlucky not to score. In the second quarter the
forwards and midfield continued to work hard, whilst the defence
snuffed out any Clontarf attack, Clontarf posed no real threat.
Jacks long kick outs meant the team could keep Clontarf on the
back foot. Eventually the pressure paid off with yet another Malahide
attack in numbers, Clontarf were forced into conceding an own
goal when William Mc Namara was about to pull the trigger. In
the third quarter Malahide continued to attack the Clontarf goal
and their hard work was rewarded with a well taken goal by Cian
Reid. In the final quarter the quality of the teams football began
to tell, with a series of good passing movements; Cian Reid scored
a further 2 goals – a just reward for a fine individual
performance and an excellent team performance. All of today’s
squad worked extremely hard for this result – take a bow
lads – well done. At the final whistle the team showed what
this victory meant to them with exuberant post match celebrations.
We all went to McD’s for a celebration meal.
Congratulations to the 7D1 squad – worthy
C-h-a-m-p-i-o-n-s!!!!
The final league record stands at:-
P 10 W8 D0 L2 F35 A11 GD24 PTS 24
(Whilst in the 7E league, at the start
of the season, the squad won 4 matches in a row; therefore of
14 matches played in the NDSL, the squad won 12).

A game where the squads hard work was rewarded
with goals aplenty! Conditions were ideal for football –
a dry, bright, cold morning with little wind. From the kick off
all of the players worked hard and were camped in Howth’s
half for the first quarter. The pressure paid off and Max Sheridan
finished off a good footballing move with a well taken goal. Howth
were working hard too but were limited to one well struck shot
saved by Jack Torpey. In the second quarter the teams dominance
continued with attack after attack – rewarded with another
goal from Max Sheridan, who played up front this quarter. We continued
our policy of rotating all outfield positions for each quarter.
In the third quarter Cian Reid and William McNamara added to the
goal tally. For the final quarter Howth looked weary and the team
continued attacking with goals from Jack Torpey; Niall Horan;
Max Sheridan (his hat-trick!) and a second for Cian Reid. A comprehensive
victory, which given the effort all of the squad put in was thoroughly
deserved.
Well done boys!

25/02 : Malahide
Utd 0 – Woodlawn 2
While last week’s match was played in
ideal conditions, this match was played in conditions that you
would expect at the North Pole and not at Gannon Park. Malahide
started well, made good passing movement and closed down the opposition
even though they were playing against the wind.
During the second quarter, there were few opportunities
again for either team due to the high winds, but a lot of hard
work was done by the Malahide team. The team was rotated for each
quarter ensuring that no squad player got cold on the sidelines.
As the third quarter started, Malahide
played their best flowing moves with good passes picking out their
players but just with no finishing touch. It looked as though
the game would end in a stalemate when Woodlawn counter attacked
with our defence on the back foot to put them ahead. Then within
two minutes of the tip off, Woodlawn broke free again with their
striker finishing in style that even Shay Given wouldn’t
have saved !
We re-grouped for the final quarter, worked hard to get back in
the match but Woodlawn shut up shop and time just ran out for
the team. The team worked hard and I think the only difference
was the Woodlawn team had their Readybrek that morning !
The squad was Timmy Bradley, Niall Horan,
Daniel Murphy, Max Sheridan, William McNamara,
Luke Cassidy, Lucas Keegan, Philip Ryan, Cian Reid & Jack
Quinn.

18/02 - Malahide United 1: 0
(Goalscorers: Cian Reid)
A top of the table clash (first against
second) - this was definitely a game where the final score does
not reflect the level of excitement of a fantastic, incident packed
game of football, those who witnessed the game will agree that
they saw two committed teams play entertaining football –
a remarkable feat for such young players.
The game was played in ideal conditions,
the morning was cold, dry and overcast. Due to late cancellations
a number of late call ups to the squad were required – therefore
a couple of the boys could not make our Friday evening pre match
training session. Clontarf had not yet experienced defeat and
had only conceded 1 goal prior to this game – the players
knew they faced a tough challenge and they would all have to work
hard to earn a result. The game started and for the first two
quarters the players did work hard and played some great passing
football, creating several fine chances – we hit the crossbar
and upright but no goal.

Our attacks resulted in a number of close
range free kicks , Clontarf were pined back and were limited to
skirmish forays into the MUAFC half. Except for the goalkeeper
we rotated all positions at the end of each quarter. In the third
quarter the players continued to play attacking football and were
deservedly rewarded with a goal, scored by Cian Reid. Clontarf
responded with a number of attacks one of which resulted in the
awarding of a penalty due to a trip on one of their players. Was
all of our hard work to be undone? A hard struck penalty was saved
by Jack Torpey in goal – what a relief!
In the final quarter Clontarf pressed
hard for an equaliser, it was evident that their earlier hard
effort had taken a lot of our players, who began to look tired
but they kept playing good quality football and broke down the
Clontarf attacks. The final whistle blew and the players were
delighted to have won. Todays performance was a mixture of hard
work and fine passing football – it is wonderful to note
the improvement in the squad performance through this season –
keep it up boys.
11/02 - Navan Road United 1:3 Malahide
United
(Goalscorers: M Sheridan; D O’Brien; J
Nolan)
This was the teams first away game in 2006 and
only the second away game for this league campaign. The day started
badly as the wrong pitch location was advertised for the fixture.
Eventually after numerous telephone calls we established the game
was to be played in the Phoenix Park (we had gone as far as Dunshaughlin!).
By the time we got to the Phoenix Park we did not have much time
to warm up – we had been in our cars travelling for over
an hour so it was hard on the players to have to start playing
immediately.
The weather was cold, windy with intermittent
light rain. The game started at a hard pace, the players had to
work hard and played some good passing football. MUAFC opened
the scoring with a well taken goal by Max Sheridan. Navan Road
responded well and scored an equaliser, one all at the end of
the first quarter. The team was rotated for each quarter except
for the goalkeeper – Jack Torpey who stayed in goal for
the first three quarters and made a number of important saves
– his long kick-outs helped the team keep the opposition
penned into their own half.
The second quarter saw both teams equally
matched with neither team able to dominate the other – it
looked like the game was heading for a draw. In the third quarter
MUAFC succeeded in launching a strong series of attacks which
were eventually rewarded with a well taken left foot shot by Daniel
O’Brien. In the final quarter MUAFC maintained pressure
on the opposition who threatened with strong counter attacks.
Jack Nolan settled the result with a beautifully taken goal towards
the end of the game. A game which we were delighted to win considering
the mess up before kick off - lesson learned by the manager!!
Again it is great to say all the boys worked hard and deserved
their victory – well done boys.
04/02 - Malahide United 6:0 Mid Sutton
This was the teams first outing in 2006, it
is fair to say that our players were keen to resume their involvement
in the league campaign (our first competitive match since 19th
November and only our fourth match of this league campaign). The
conditions were perfect for football and the team got stuck into
their work from the first whistle; pressuring the ball and leading
to several clear chances (but no goals) in the first quarter.

The squad was rotated for each quarter and during
the second quarter the squad’s hard work was rewarded by
goals from both Jack Nolan and Cian Reid. Though the forwards
and mid field continued to work hard the defence remained disciplined
and prevented several attempts by Mid Sutton to launch attacks.
During the third quarter William Mc Namara and
Daniel Murphy scored. In the final quarter the squad continued
to work hard and the team effort was rewarded with goals by Jack
Nolan and Cian Reid. Considering that Mid Suttons goal keeper
played well and made some great saves it is fair to say that the
squads hard work enabled them to dominate the game. If the players
can repeat this level of performance they will equip themselves
well in future matches.
Woodlawn 1:6 Malahide United
This was the teams first outing in the D1 league.
The opposition were well organised and had the benefit of a good
goalkeeper who made a number of saves before Cian Reid eventually
opened the scoring - 1 nil at the end of the first quarter. Our
defence looked comfortable and our midfield and forwards worked
hard closing down the opposition. The hard work was rewarded in
the second and third quarters with a further four goals scored
(one each for Daniel Murphy; Max Sheridan; Niall McCann; Jack
Nolan and Cian Reid).
Jack Torpey pulled off a number of tidy up saves
and one excellent parry over the crossbar. Woodlawn did score
once but Philip and Max were in control in defence and limited
the number of chances. In the final quarter we took our foot off
the pedel. Woodlawn were able to apply pressure and were rewarded
with a penalty which Jack saved but the referee ordered a retake
because he claimed our defenders were infringing on the box -
Woodlawn scored the retake. The team responded well and scored
the final goal of the game - a hat trick for Cian Reid. A well
deserved victory for a good team performance well done boys and
girl!
Little Pacers 'Outpaced' by Mighty Malahide
© Ruairi Carberry 24/9/05
Malahide Utd Under 7's were on fire today as
they left Little Pacers trailing in their wake at Gannon Park
. It was a cold and windy day at Malahide's North county Dublin
pitch and the opposition, who had travelled from Leixlip, could
not cope with the pace set by the home team.
The weather certainly did not effect Cian Reed,
the Malahide No 6, who scored an unbelievable eight goals yesterday
- is this a Malahide United club record?
Amazingly the first five minutes were quiet
and no real chances fell to either side. Then Jack Thorpey slotted
a pass through to Reed who beat two defenders before drilling
it past the keeper. 1-0 to Malahide and the home team were on
their way.
It only took another two minutes for Reed to
get number two. The skilful midfielder took the ball past five
defenders before poking the ball through the keeper's legs. Then
minutes later the first hat trick was complete! Cain Reed had
notched three goals in less than fifteen minutes but the fourth
was really special. The Little Pacers keeper took a kick out but
did not get any distance on it. Reed watched it come down and
caught it on the volley at the edge of the box and buried it past
the keeper. Great technique for such a young player and great
to see the benefits of Malahide's 'Nippers' coaching academy coming
through.
Reed added number five and numbers six for a
double hat trick before letting Alex O'Hanlon in on the act. Number
seven O'Hanlon had seen a couple of his earlier efforts held by
the keeper but he was rewarded for his persistency when the keeper
fumbled the ball and he was on hand to slide it home. Minutes
later O'Hanlon added his second and Malahide's eighth.
Cian Reed got back on the score sheet when he
netted number nine for Malahide. The home side were running riot
at this stage but credit to the visitors who kept plugging away
and never let their heads drop. Jack Thorpey added number ten
when he gained a yard of space in the box and curled the ball
beautifully into the bottom corner.
Eleven and twelve were soon added with Reed
finishing an astonishing display when he grabbed his eighth goal.
So its two wins out of two for the under 7 team
who beat Mid Sutton 7-1 last week. Just like Chelsea the lads
from Malahide have only conceded one goal this season but are
outdoing the Premiership pace setters in the scoring stakes. But
will any of Jose's men outscore Reed this season ?
