On a cold Sunday morning on the outskirts of Drogheda MUFC under 10s lineout. Tip off taken by Malahide passed back to Sean slips the ball through to Marco who plays forward to Eoin O Connell which results a shooting possibility signs are already looking good for the good guys. Colm Byrne is supplied with the ball on the left wing beats 1, beats 2 and hits ball with conviction resulting in a magnificent GOAL after 5 minutes. Drogheda get a handle on the game temporarily only to be challenged by another shooting chance ( Colm 15 minutes ). Carl joins in the striking mode unfortunately hits the post, Gary follows up the rebound, ball remains in play and Colm has another pop at goal to result in a corner. Corner taken and we have a near miss, oh! the tragedy of it. Marco playing a blinder in defense passes to Colm to the Goalkeeper and Malahide secure possession again. Ball back in play, Gary mesmerizes us with his skill and ability, Gary creates a free kick taken by Colm ball finished in side netting. Sean passes Drogheda players with ease, Malahide continue a run of good possession. Great kick out by Paul to reach Carl, ball passes swiftly amongst Malahide players, more good defending by Marco and all the defensive line. Eoin Hamill gets a solid header from the kick out to conclude the first half. Result at this stage Malahide 1 Drogheda 0.

Second half commences with an exceptional clearance by Eoin Hamill the ball is passed between Aaron/Liam /Edward?Carl, Drogheda earn possession and results in a goal ( 1-1). Eoin Hamill passes to Carl, shoots just wide of target. Aaron producing great tackles Malahide regain the upper hand, Edward lays on a pass to Carl, Carl strides forward keeper saves this one, but within moments Carl secures the second goal approaching from the right wing ball placed nicely in the back of the net. Malahide now brimming with confidence ball is passed easily amongst Liam/Edward and Carl, great crosses, great strikes at goal. Drogheda get the ball into the Malahide half, good shot at goal produces an excellent and brave save by Paul. Malahide play the ball well into Droghedas half, resulting in a corner , well done Carl. Corner delivery perfect to find the solid boot of Colm Byrne GOAL, Final result 3-1 to Malahide, a well earned win. Look forward to more excellent results.

Last Sunday was our first match back from our Christmas holidays. It was a good start, we were all back and ready for action! We knew it was going to be a difficult match because the team looked very strong, but we know we could beat them. It was a very tight match at the start because they kept on coming at our defence. They got the ball in the box many times from a throw in near the corner flag. Sometimes it was difficult to control the ball and to clear it.

They had a very good defence at the start, because they cleared the ball many times and then we realised we had to put pressure on them. Our first goal was perfectly smashed in, by Sean, in the top right corner of the goal. It was going wide but then it went right in the top corner. By half- time it was still 1-0. In the second half, Sean completed his hat-trick and a wonderful goal by Liam made it 4-0. All in all it was a great win and we hope we can keep it going for the rest of the season!!!

10/12/05 Esker Celtic 1 : 10 Malahide United

Fitzgerald Cup

Reporter: Eóin O’Connell

Our match today is the first round of the Fitzgerald Cup against Esker Celtic Sat B team. It had been cancelled twice due to bad weather. We were down to 9 players because some of our players were sick (get well soon).
We got off to a good start when Liam smacked home the first goal of the game. Shortly after Colm made a lovely run and strike which was touched by the keeper but Eóin O’C with a rebound chance that he wasn’t going to miss, made it 2 up. Next it was Gary’s attempt, he charged up the pitch but was unlucky to blast it just right of the post and wide. The midfield players Liam, Edward, Karl and Gary did great work and rarely let the ball into our half. They were well supported by the backs, Colm, Eoghan and Séan adapting well to his position as centre back for the day. A quick short corner from Colm to Eóin and back to Colm and with a great shot he left the keeper with no chance. Our fourth was a great shot from Edward that went into the bottom left corner. After the tip off Esker lost possession. To Eóin’C and with a great one two with Edward gave Eóin’C the chance for his second. Again Colm came up the line crossed to Eóin’C whose first shot was blocked but scored with the second. EoinO'C fourth came from a Malahide corner. Colm cross was deflected to Eóin who took full and scored. advantage on one occasion Esker made a brave attempt and broke through the defence and forced a save by Paul. Just before half time Karl took a quick short pass corner to Colm who took it passed one defender and let fly towards the goalmouth and it was deflected just inside the near post by an Esker defender. At half time Malahide are 8 up.

At half time managers Marcus and Fergus decided to make changes in our team for the second half. Paul moved to centre forward and Colm moved into goal with Eóin O’C now playing left back. The second half is not as high scoring as the first. Eoghan H with runs right left and centre. Karl had plenty of attempts on goal, it just was not working for him today. Eoghan H on one of his runs took a shot that hit Paul and went in. Paul’s first of the season. Down in our half Esker were awarded a free on the edge of our box. It was drilled low and hard by one of Esker’s attackers who took a shot as Séan tried to tackle him and Colm was unluckly not to save. But the drama was still to continue. Paul grabbed a second nearing the end of the game. Eoin H crossed to Paul who beat the defender to it and finished first time. Séan commanding the defence as Eoghan H pushed forward. A well deserved victory for Malahide, each player contributing well to the result, leaving the players confident for the start of the New Year.

The match was very even in the first half. Paul made a couple of good saves when we were under pressure. Our best chances came when Ed hit the bar and Colm had a free kick saved.

There weren't many chances in the second half. Malahide eventually scored when Gary stopped the ball on the end line and passed to Karl. He turned well and scored from a very tight angle. Malahide held out for a 1-0 victory.

13/11/05 St Josephs Boys 0 : 2 Malahide United

Reporter: Liam Nolan.

It was a very cold day in St Joseph's ground on Sunday 13th November 05 where we played against St Joseph's. It was a close match between two teams who both gave everything they had to win the game.

In the first half Paul Mc Bride made a great save and Marco did some some good defending. Down the other end of the pitch Séan Nolan hit the crossbar and there was a scramble in the St Joseph's box from a corner which we all thought ended in a goal - but the ref didn't allow it.

In the second half Malahide came out all fired up and got the passing going again and scored two goals - the first came from Eóin O'Connell and the second from Edward Sheridan. It was a great match and all played well and deserved to win the game.

I had an early start to the day as I had to travel back from Rosslare that morning to play in the match. I was really looking forward to it. At our talk before the game about tactics Marcus called us together and said I was the captain for today and for rest of the season, I was really happy and proud. The referee blew the whistle and the game started. Eóin O’Connell tipped to Séan Nolan who passed to Karl Steacy then he passed to me. I played it long back to Eóin who beat a defender and got his shot in. Their keeper saved it only to have Liam Nolan stick the ball in the back of the net. O One nil up after only eleven seconds. We think that’s a record.

We carried on playing great passing football for almost the rest of first half with chances coming thick and fast. Eóin O’Connell, Sean, Karl & Gary all came very close to scoring. We looked very strong at the back as well. Eoghan Hamill, Marco Lupo and I seemed in control all the time with Paul McBride keeping a close eye on things from his goal.

Ed Sheridan, Darragh Walsh and Aaron McDonnell came into the game during the first half and all played their part in probably our best twenty five minutes of soccer yet. We were rewarded for our work when Séan Nolan got on the end of a long pass and slotted the ball past their keeper to make it two nil.

They really came at us in second half and played much better football. It wasn’t long before they got their first goal. We were under a lot of pressure and we didn’t play as well as we did in first half. It looked like they were about to equalise when Paul McBride made a brave save at the feet of their fast running winger to keep it at 2 :1. But they did equalise and not long after that they went three two up. We tried our hardest but could not get the equaliser even though we had a few near misses. We are ready again for our next match.

Bring it on !!

16/10/05 Park Celtic 3 : 2 Malahide United

Reporter : Séan Nolan

It was a dull Sunday morning as we headed off to Cabinteely to play Park Celtic. Both teams were nervous from the start, as shown by poor passing by both sides.

Malahide took the lead when Colm Byrne’s corner took a wicked deflection and hit the net. Park Celtic quickly equalised and then took the lead with some sloppy defending by Malahide. At the break Park Celtic led 2 : 1.

The second half was similar to the first with some sloppy football. Park Celtic extended their lead with a sweet lob over keeper Paul Mc Bride’s head. Malahide pushed forward with some good determined play by Colm Byrne who earned our second score with a beautiful header from Liam’s corner. Unfortunately time was running out Final score Park Celtic 3, Malahide United 2.

09/10/05 Malahide United 2 : 1 Drogheda Boys

Reporter : Karl Steacy

It was a windy Sunday Morning in Gannon Park, the match started out at a steady pace, with Malahide's answer to "Shay Given" - Paul McBride making a deadly save early in the first half. We had a few chances but we were unable to finish them off. Drogheda Boys scored a soft goal. Sean Nolan then got the ball on the half way line, passing it to Karl Steacy, who pushed it onto Liam Nolan, who dribbled past one player, then let rip and scored the equaliser.

At half time our Mentor's Fergus Byrne and Marcus Hamill gave us a tough team talk. Fergus said that we passed the ball well and looked very sharp but we were unable to put the ball in the back of the net.

The second half was slow; Drogheda boys had the advantage of the stiff breeze. The game was mostly played in midfield with a few breaks by both teams, one of which led to a good goal by Sean (4 Touch) Nolan. Two minutes later the final whistle was blown and we were happy to have won.

Bhí an cluiche i bhfad ó bhaile i Bushy Park. Bhí dath gorm is dath buí ar geansaith an foireann eile. Cluiche an garbh a bhí ann. Ag leatama bhímid ag imirt go breá agus bhfuairmuid dhá cúl sa leath sin mar bhfuair Eóin O'Conaill dhá cúl. Shéid an reiteoir an fheadóg agus thosaigh an dara leath. Bhí an leath seo garbh ar fad. Fuair Colm Byrne cic saor agus bhuail sé go mhaith é. Ach bhuail na h-imreorí an liathróid as. Ansin fhuair Eóin O'C dhá cúl eile. (Bhí an liathróid ag Liam, thrasnaigh sé é go Eóin a thuig cic iontach dó agus d'imigh an liathróid thar an line. Ansin bhí an scór 3 cúl duinne. Fuair Eóin O'C an cuigiu freisin. ) Fuair Séan Nolan cúl ar feabhas ag deireadh an cluiche. Ag deireadh an cluiche bhfuair Rangers dhá cúl eile, ach bhí an cluich againn. Rangers 3 : Mullach Íde 5.

Cluiche ar fheabhas a bhi ann.

It was an away match in Bushy Park. Their team colours were blue and yellow. It was quite a tough match. At half time we were in the lead by two goals to one, both scored by Éoin O'Connell. The referee blew the whistle for the second half. This half was even tougher and (rougher) than the first. Colm Byrne was awarded a free kick. Colm swung the ball in but the Rangers defence cleared it. Then Éoin O'C got us another two crackers in the second half (aiding Liam's ball across the line to ensure the third and the fifth in the final seconds of injury time.) Séan Nolan added the fourth keeping us well in the lead. The opposition scored another two goals and the game finished 5:3 to Malahide United.

For our third game of the season, we travelled to Lucan to play Esker Celtic. In a very tight game, we lost 1 - 0 to a goal we weren't very happy with. From our point of view, our goalie Paul was fouled when Esker scored. We fought hard to get the goal back but it never came. We were all disappointed at the end but we hope for better luck next time.

11/09: Templeogue 1:5 Malahide United

Reporter: Paul McBride

On a very warm Sunday morning Malahide took to the field for their second league game hoping 2 wins out of 2 games. Within 5 mins, Templeogue scored but we didn't drop our heads. Sean Nolan recieved a perfectly placed pass from Eoin O'Connell down the left wing and made no mistake in finishing the ball to the net. Within minutes we got a penalty for hand ball and up stepped Colm Byrne but his fine shot was saved by the keeper and Sean Nolan pounced on the rebound to score again. Soon after Sean with another great goal completed his hatrick to leave us 3-1 up at the break.

We kept the lead owing to the great workof our defenders with Colm Byrne, Eoghan Hamill and Aaron McDonnell giving great protection to our keeper Paul McBride. Our midfield worked hard to create chances with some fine ballwork from Gary Lawlor, Edward Sheridan and Liam Nolan. This hard work lead to our 4th goal which was finished so well by Liam.

With the ever lively Karl Stacey upfront it looked like we would score again and this we did when Liams shot was blocked by their goalie and Marco Lupo hammered the ball to the net giving the keeper no chance. This improved squad now looks forward to their next game under the excellent management of Fergus Byrne and Marcus Hamill.

04/09 : Cambridge Boys 1 : 5 Malahide United

What a start to the season !!! A match against our old rivals, Cambridge Boys, in one of the heartlands of schoolboy soccer, Ringsend Park. This was our first competitive game as a 9 a side team and you would think from watching it, that they had been playing this way all their lives !!! We took an early lead with a goal from our debutant Sean Nolan, only to concede one against the run of play. The match then turned into the Karl Stacey show, as he bagged a hat-trick, with Gary Lawlor chipping in a fifth for good measure.

Everyone contributed on the day from our goalkeeper Paul McBride, defenders Edward Sheridan, Darragh Walsh, Colm Byrne and Eoghan Hamill, midfielders Liam Nolan, Gary Lawlor, Sean Nolan and Aaron McDonnell and strikers Marco Lupo, Eoin O'Connell and Karl Stacey. Every player gave 100% on the day and the performance gave all the supporters plenty to cheer about.

BRING IT ON !!!!!

Marcus.
