13Bs crowned Champions for 2004/5 season
..
We capped off a great season for this very talented bunch of
13/14 year-olds by winning the NDSL 13B league title - we received
our trophy and winners medals at the Presentation Ceremony in
the Oscar Traynor Development Centre on Sunday 26/6/05 and then
we celebrated in style with a great gathering of players and their
families!
Before Christmas, we were unbeaten in the league and were still
involved in 3 Cup competitions. In the SFAI All-Ireland Cup, we
won our way into the last 32 stage which was a great achievement
in itself beating the likes of Walshetown and East Meath United
on the way. We got the quarter-finals of the League Cup only to
lose out in extra-time to Castleknock Celtic. We scored freely
in all competitions scoring in excess of 100 goals in 29 games!!
- 2 of the lads scored in excess of 20 goals, which is some return
- well done Cormac and Colin.
We finished our League campaign as Champions with just 3 defeats
from 20 matches scoring 65 goals on route to the NDSL 13B division.
We also achieved the goal we set ourselves at the start of the
season of promotion to the 14A division next season and we did
it in style playing some great football along the way.
Eoin Reilly who was our player of the year - our most improved
player this season, he was very influential throughout the season,
was a regular in the first team all season and was involved in
most of our set-pieces also, particularly corners - well done
Eoin and special mention also here for Patrick Walsh (outstanding
at centre-half throughout the season) and Aaron Carney (team captain)
who led the team by example in many of our games this season -
both Patrick and Aaron ran Eoin very close for this year's POY
award but in truth, this was a great team effort this year and
every squad member played their part.
The current squad is a great group of players who have shown
a lot of hard work, commitment, dedication and of course skill
throughout the season both at training sessions and on match day
- I have really enjoyed coaching and managing this group of teenage
lads and I hope to see most of them back and rearing for action
come August time.
But for now, the lads deserve a well earned break and time to
enjoy their success and achievements this season - well done Fionn
Carney, David O'Keeffe, Eoin Walshe, Patrick Walsh, Matthew Brophy,
Aaron Carney, Eoin Reilly, Conor Maguire, Alex Barnwell, Colin
Burke, Cormac Herlihy, Mark Gallivan, David Guirke, Conor Delahunty,
Andreas Kelly and Neil Doherty.
Final word has to be one of thanks to all the parents for their
fantastic support throughout the year and in particular those
who were available to help me with lifts to matches, helped me
with nets, linesman duties or who stepped in to take the couple
of training sessions /matches that I could not make during the
year - thanks again and here's looking to competing in the 14A
division next season!
