30/05/06 - A match that had to be won!

Teams shaking hands before the big match.
The U8F2 season is ending with great excitement. On Monday evening
30th May, we played the league leaders St. Mochtas in our last
'official' game of the league. We were three points behind and
had to win to take St. Mochtas to a play-off. It was nil-all with
just two minutes to go, when Shane Gallagher and Jack McEvoy forced
a corner. Josh Stafford took a short corner to Eoin O'Connor,
who crossed it to Conor Fry, and Conor struck a beautiful shot
past the helpless St. Mochta's 'keeper.

The entire panel of 11 players played their part on the night,
and everyone of them was a hero. The Man of the Match award went
to Stephen Murray who made some stunning tackles in the first
two quarters, followed by some great saves in the final two quarters.
Stephen was ably assisted in defence by Simon Kinsella who was
presented with 'Best Defender - 2005' award before the kick-off.
The other awards presented on the evening were:
Best Goalkeeper: Stephen Murray
Best Midfielder: Josh Stafford
Best Winger: Eoin O'Connor
Best Tackler: Eoin Butler
Best Skills: Ben McClinton
Best Passer: Shane Gallagher
Best New Player: Lewis Hales
Best Sportsman: Conor Fry
Most Improved Player: Ciaran McNamara
Player of the Year: Jack McEvoy
