For
the first time in its history, Malahide Utd has a team in the Dublin
District
Schoolboy Premier League. Reputed by many people to be the best
schoolboy league in the country, competing with teams like Shelbourne,
Home Farm, Cherry Orchard, Belvedere and St. Kevins been household
names.
So, it was in September 2004 that Malahide Utd
U11's played their first game against St. Josephs Boys. The first
match didn't go so well, with Malahide suffering a 2 - 0 defeat
away form home. The 2nd game was at home to St. Kevins Boys and
lost 3-1. The next 7 games were without a defeat. Well done lads!
As the league progressed the boys got stronger and better by learning
to adapt, firstly to the 11-a-side game and secondly to the higher
standard that is associated with the league.
Exceptional performances by all the players
at different times during the league helped the team to move up
the table to 3rd place and kept them there till near the end of
the season where they finally finished up in 4th spot.
The team even managed to have 3 players go for
trials for the DDSL representative panel and congratulations to
Jack Watson on making the team for their trip to England. All-in-all,
it was a very successful year for the team and with the addition
of a new coach for next season the future looks bright.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank
all the parents for their loyal support on the side line every
week and for their dedication to have all the players at training
every week on time,. Most of them on time anyway!!
