- 16 Premier Book 2nd Cup Final appearance in May with excellent
2-0 win over Mullingar Athletic
The 16 Premier squad reached the Ken McKay Cup
Final with an excellent 2-0 win over Premier division rivals,
Mullingar Athletic on Sunday last - this means that the 16 Premier
squad will compete in two Cup Finals on consecutive weekends in
May - more details on the Cup Final dates and time to follow..and
we are very much in contention for the 16 Premier league title
also !
17/02 - 16 Premier Advance to Semi-Finals
in Under 16 Ken McKay Cup
The 16 Premier showed great character in bouncing
back from their penalty shoot-out heartbreak in the SFAI Cup to
beat Ashbourne United ( also a Premier outfit) 6-1 and claim a
Semi-Final spot in the Under 16 Ken McKay Cup - on the day the
lads proved much too strong for their Premier division opponents
and scored six cracking goals ( with six different goalscorers)
in glorious sunshine on Sunday morning ( made a nice change from
the last day we played where the conditions were atrocious with
wind, rain, hail and even a mini-snow storm !). They now are looking
to concentrate on their league campaign where they have a 100%
record to date. Keep it going lads !
The squad was boosted by the return of players
from the Malahide Community School trip to Lillehammer in Norway
and from Portmarnock Community School's Marian Finuchane trip
to South Africa - more details anon - although some of the lads
only flew in from Cape Town on Saturday night, they were available
for selection on Sunday morning for the Ashbourne game ( and all
played their part in our comprehensive win) - this is an indication
of the commitment and team spirit of this very talented group
of 16/17 year olds - and the competition for a starting place
every Sunday is intense - long may it continue !

Malahide United have set up a mouth watering
clash with St Michaels Tipperary in the last 32 of the Barry Cup
following this fantastic win at Gannon Park on Sunday.
The fairytale continues for Brian Walshe's unbeaten
team but Monaghan United will look back on a number of chances
that went unconverted in the second half.
Malahide United were well up for it from the
off and it took a good interception from Monaghan centre half,
Conor Toal on 21 minutes to deny Jamie Walsh just as he was about
to bear down on goal.
But United continued to press with Mark McGrath
winning a free from outside the box on 21 minutes. From the set
piece the ball went out for a corner on the left with Walsh's
inswinger only half cleared. And there to meet the ball was McGrath
who delivered an unstoppable first time strike past Kevin Martin
in the Monaghan United goals.
United however came close to an equaliser shortly
after the restart but Jimmy Fallon was unable to keep his effort
on target.
And then four minutes into the second half,
Marty Hanley saw an effort come back off the post.
Malahide continued to work hard as they continually
closed down the Monaghan back four. But again it was the visitors
who came close to levelling proceedings with Paul Sherlock just
shooting wide from outside the box.
United then doubled their lead 63 minutes when
Walsh ran unto a through ball from Dylan Tighe before rolling
the ball past the keeper.
Monaghan spurned another opportunity at the
other end before Walsh in an a repeat of his first goal again
beat the United keeper in a one-on-one to kill off the game.
Malahide United: Daniel Coughlan, Mick Ring,
Morgan O'Reilly, Patrick Walsh, Eoin Walshe, Conor Maguire, Paddy
Egan, Mark McGrath, Brendan Lynch, Jamie Walsh, Dylan Tighe.

*Under
16 Premier Squad Hit the Ice !!*
For its annual Christmas outing, the players
and management of the Malahide United Under 16 Premier squad chose
ice skating in the RDS again this year (click here
for last years trip) - we booked it for December 15 after our
league programme was completed for 2007 The lads really deserved
this outing as they had won all their 11 matches in 2007/8 in
all competitions.
We travelled by train to Sydney Parade from
Malahide and walked the short distance to the RDS - having 'laced'
up, the lads took to the main ice rink ( no beginners rink for
this lot) - some were confident, some were cautious, others stayed
close to the barrier for comfort ! But as the session went on,
the confidence levels grew and I could relax a bit
more knowing that it looked unlikely now that any injury would
come to the lads !
I snapped a few photographs to try to capture
the fun and excitement of the day - they are re-produced under.
After their exertions on
the rink, the lads were hungry, so we headed for Four Star Pizza
on Shelbourne Road where we got a delicious feed of pizza before
heading for home again - all in all a very enjoyable day and once
again, the lads did the club, their families and themselves proud
- well done lads and here's to a succesful 2008!

Malahide continued their winning ways at Walshestown
on Sunday with Dylan Tighe recording goals in each half for Brian
Walshe's team.
Tighe had opened the scoring for United with
a left footed strike before Morgan O'Reilly converted from the
penalty spot on the half hour.
Brendan Lynch cross come shot then made it three
on fifty minutes with Tighe lifting the ball over the keeper after
being played in by Niall Hoban.
A goal mouth scramble in the Walshestown penalty
area then saw Conor Maguire convert from close range on 65 minutes
with the home side then pulling a goal back from the penalty spot
shortly afterwards.
Malahide however had the last say with Mark
McGrath beating the keeper with a crisp low shot having come close
on a number of occasions during the game.

Malahide United kept up their winning ways at
Malahide Castle on Sunday morning in a game that was still finely
balanced with ten minutes remaining.
Malahide coach, Brian Walshe used his bench
well in the second half with Jamie Walsh and Mark Mc Grath, who
both started up front against Maynooth last week, giving Malahide
plenty of options after being introduced after the break.
Dunboyne had taken an early lead but Brendan
Lynch, after taking a sublime pass off Niall Hoban, then blasted
into the back of the net.
The hard working Conor Maguire was then floored
inside the penalty area with the very impressive Morgan O'Reilly
then converting the penalty with a quarter of an hour gone.
Dunboyne worked hard to get back into the game
but could not find their way past O'Reilly who was a calming influence
at the back.
Malahide then went 3-1 up on 35 minutes with
Maguire after taking a pass off Paddy Egan rolling the ball past
the keeper.
The Malahide keeper, Daniel Coughlan, then produced
a great double save before the break with half time replacement,
Jamie Walsh then racing clear to beat the keeper with a low strike
on 45 minutes.
At this stage, Malahide looked to be well in
control but Dunboyne were right back in moments later when Dunboyne
player lifted the ball over the keeper.
Dunboyne then pulled another one back but Malahide
having sprung the offside trap then killed the game off when Egan's
cross was converted at the near post by Daniel Denehy on 71 minutes.
Malahide United: Daniel Coughlan, Matthew
Brophy, Eoin Walshe, Patrick Walsh, Paddy Egan, Brendan Lynch,
Niall Hoban, Morgan O'Reilly, Jamie Walsh, Dylan Tighe, Daniel
Dennehy, Mark McGrath, Conor Maguire, Shane Kunkels, Luke Ferguson,
