Malahide Utd 1 – 1 Mid-Sutton (aet) Cup Replay.
Mid-Sutton won on a sudden death penalty shootout.
Team: Only 8 Players available. (Tadhg & Liam were away).
Sean Meehan, Conor Moore, David Moloney, Eoin Keogh, Glen Connell,
Conor O`Byrne, Ryan Jones and Gavin Dalton.
After a 0-0 Draw (aet) before Christmas we knew
we were in for a tough match and whoever would win it would be
by a very tight scoreline.
This replay started at a cracking pace and Mid-Sutton
just about had the edge on chances created and went 1-0 up before
half time. Malahide were moving the ball around well and some
stout defending by Mid-Sutton kept us out and they led 1-0 at
the break. A quick team chat and the players were focused and
determined to get back into the game. Conor O`Byrne had taken
over in goal from Sean and with both teams playing some great
football both defences and keepers were being worked really hard.
Ryan and David were once again defending superbly
and Eoin, Glen and Gavin were very solid in Midfield. Conor Moore
was working really hard upfront and linking up very well with
midfield. As the game wore on it looked like Mid-Sutton were going
to hold onto that 1-0 lead. Malahide kept probing and a great
cross by Glen, Gavin went for it and a strong challenge looked
like a foul (penalty shouts from Malahide) play on said the referee
and in an instant Conor was onto the loose ball and slammed it
into the net 1-1 with about 2 minutes of normal time left. The
Players were exhausted at this stage and yet as we played 5 minutes
each way extra time they still created some really good chances
that on another day would have went in.
1-1 after extra time and onto the penalty shootout.
“pick your spot don`t change your mind and hit it as hard
as you can” was the advice. 1-0, 1-1, then Malahide hit
the Bar, Mid-Sutton then hit the post, Mid-Sutton Keeper makes
a great save, then Conor O`Byrne makes a great save for Malahide.
1-1 after 3 penalties each.
The Referee states now we are in Sudden Death.
Malahide take the first penalty placed to the keepers left he
makes yet another fantastic save. Can Conor keep us in the game,
up steps the Mid-Sutton Keeper to take his penalty, he puts it
to our keepers right Conor goes the right way and is extremely
unlucky not to keep it out.
Mid-Sutton win 2-1 on Sudden Death Penalties
everyone is exhausted including the Coaches. A Fantastic Cup Match
and full credit to both teams for a highly entertaining morning.
Our Players should be really proud of themselves and considering
we only had 8 players today it was a really valiant effort by
the boys.
Well Done to all of the players and thank you
to all of our supporters.
26/01/08 Malahide Utd 3 – 1 Maynooth Town
Team:
Sean Meehan, Conor Moore, David Moloney, Eoin Keogh, Glen Connell,
Conor O`Byrne, Ryan Jones, Gavin Dalton, Tadhg Russell and Liam
Feeney.
A Great performance from the team after a long
break. Our first competitive match since 1st December. Maynooth
started well with a lot of possession and a number of shots on
goal. Sean was being kept busy in goal and eventually Maynooth
broke the deadlock and took the lead to go 1-0 in front. Malahide
began to find their rhythm and began creating chances of their
own. A couple of fine saves by the Maynooth keeper kept us out
and just when we thought we would go in at halftime 1-0 down Eoin
made a fantastic run on the right side of midfield and finished
with a superb shot to make it 1-1 at halftime.
The second half began with Malahide starting
to dominate and play some really good football moving the ball
very well. A quick throw in by Ryan to Gavin led to our second
goal a superb strike by Gavin and we edged in front 2-1. Maynooth
were not giving up and created some excellent chances and Conor
Moore (who had taken over in goal from Sean) made some crucial
saves. From one of these saves Conor spotted Tadhg in a good position
and found him with a great goalkick, Tadhg held off the big centre
half to create space and a fabulous shot gave the keeper no chance,
3-1 to Malahide United.
A couple of more chances at either end followed
before the game finished and another great win for this team.
All of our players showed great resilience to come from a goal
down against a very good Maynooth team and win the game. The most
enjoyable part is to see them playing football and moving the
ball around the pitch, they have worked hard in training and we
can see the results of this hard work on match day.
Well Done to all of the players and thank you to all of our supporters.
10/11/07 Malahide Utd 2 – 0 Baldoyle Utd
Team:
Conor Moore, David Moloney, Eoin Keogh, Niall O`Driscoll, Glen
Connell, Conor O`Byrne,Ryan Jones, Gavin Dalton, Tadhg Russell
and Liam Feeney.
Our first win since regrading. We have now moved
up two leagues since last season and our first match was a 3-0
defeat to Lusk Utd. We played particularly well in the second
half against Lusk and the players realised the game is a lot more
physical at this level.
We started well against Baldoyle and dominated
the first 10 minutes but could not get that elusive first goal.
Baldoyle came more into the game and our defence and goalkeeper
had to be on their toes. A slick move from midfield led to our
first goal a great strike by Gavin Dalton to put us 1-0 up at
half time. Liam Feeney took over in goal from Conor Moore for
the second half and was as determined as Conor to keep a clean
sheet. Ryan Jones and David Moloney were playing superbly in defence
and the link up play between defence and midfield up to our strikers
Tadhg Russell and Niall O`Driscoll was a pleasure to watch.
Eoin Keogh and Glen Connell were doing Trojan
work in midfield with Conor O`Byrne who was Captain today adding
some excellent creative play. The match was tight at 1-0 and we
kept pressing for a second goal and when it came it was a contender
for goal of the season scored by David Moloney, a 20 yard screamer
into the top left hand corner and Davids first goal for us. That
magical second goal clinched the game for us and earned a very
deserved win. An excellent game of football with a great performance
by both sides.
Well Done to all of the players and thank
you to all of our supporters.
